Sri Lanka won a huge match with a huge margin of 112 runs against New Zealand at Mumbai. This was a big match as it was the last match in the first round for both the teams and they wanted to go to the knock out with momentum and confidence. Sri Lanka were successful in securing the momentum as they sit pretty on top of the table for now. The Lankans won the toss and chose to bat first and followed it up by losing 2 quick wickets in 5 overs. But thats all New Zealand got to enjoy in the whole match. After this, the senior pros Sangakkara and Jayawardene steadied the ship and put on a 145 runs partnership which was the biggest of the day and most entertaning one. Mahela got out for 66 runs and Sanga went on to make a century and made 111 runs. Angelo Mathews powerful hitting put the score past 250 and they finally ended the innings with 265 runs. For NZ, Southee took 3 wickets.
It was all misery for the black caps who came to bat. They never found any consistency and kept on losing the wickets regularly. Though Sri Lankan fielding was below par with catches being dropped consistently, NZ could not capitalize and their misery was ended by Murali and Mendis who took 4 and 2 wickets respectively. For NZ, Taylor scored 33 runs off the total of 153.
